Meet Danielle. I was still “New” to Colorado and had shot a few people. Right around the time I exploded on to the Colorado market, I had shot a friend of Danielle’s. Danielle had contacted me and wanted to shoot, but she was leaving for Vegas Thursday. She contacted me Tuesday and wanted to shoot Wednesday. I agreedDetails
Often when talking to other photographers, they say to me “How do you shoot the sexy stuff?” When I ask them to expound on the sexy stuff, they typically mean the nude or implied nude stuff.
This is when I get to hop up on my soap box and tell them;
“Sexy is defined by the client, not me”Details
I am not opposed to implied nude shots, however, it sickens me to see models say “I don’t shoot nude” then you see implied NUDE’S on their page, or a full on topless. When asking them, they say they put it on there because they want to keep away the creepers or those who only want to shoot nudes. I tell them they’re hurting themselves because those photogs that would pay them, skip right past them. Their body their rules. While looking at these photos, I figured this would be a much better blog post to cover lighting.Details
If you know anything about me, then you know I’m an ordained minister when it comes to Black and White images. I preach that black and white is over done and should only be applied to SPECIFIC images. More so to images that were shot with black and white in mind, i.e. more contrast than anything. The reason is because I hear lots of photographers that shoot an image wrong and can’t get the colors to look right,Details
I can’t began to stress how important it is to have your best foot forward in ANY situation! The model/photography world is one that is built off of looks and first impressions. When I’m using these sites, I’m looking for images that blow me away. I’m looking at a thumbnail about 150×150 and have three seconds to make up my mind if I want to contact you. There are 148,587,335,114,1578,2 portfolios to look throughDetails
I hate to hit you with the importance of Mentors but I am. One of my Mentors, Art Ketchum once told me “You aren’t sh!t” if you can’t shoot white on white and keep the integrity of the clothing. Do THAT and hell, I’ll say you’re good”
Of course after he said that, I went out and tried to shoot white on white.Details
There was a model that I’ve wanted to shoot for a while named Ann Bang. She was perfect as she has a great look and killer body! She was out of the country for a while and once she was around, I was leaving Colorado. Before I left, I had a chance to shoot her but it was part of a workshop. We had agreed to shoot before I left, but it never worked out. I sent her another email letting her know I was going to be back in the area and she ignored it. Guess I won’t be shooting her anymore lol.Details
Today’s update is of Nicole. Nicole came as a referral shoot for a website. It’s been a while since I’ve shot for a site so I figured why not? The setup was simple, just one light a Photogenic Solair PLR500DRC with a silver 24″ beauty dish with diffusion sock. Not sure what happened to her, she sort of disappeared off the face of the earth (as many of them do!) My hopes is she’s alive and well and pursuing other dreams.Details
I’ve been talking about the Backdrop Outlet Pro White Vinyl backdrop for some time now. I got it in about a month ago and wanted to use it several times before giving what I’d consider, an honest feedback. Before going into any ratings, I’ll tell you my experience.Details
I seem to go in spurts, sometimes I detest natural light, other times, it’s all I shoot.
As it works out, I’ve been shooting a ton of natural light stuff over the past few weeks and have found a really FUN way to do it! It’s using a large picture window (or sliding glass door) and getting the maximum amount of light I can and shaping it from there. I use one silver reflector and sometimes a soft gold reflector to bounce light back into the face. Simple, yet effective.Details
There have been times in my professional life when a situation has hit too close to home. As any normal human being would have, I let emotion act with out the benefit of intellect. This has caused me to end relationships that shouldn’t have been or change the course of relationships in either a negative or positive way. One of the relationships was with a really good model and wonderful person named Paige. Paige is a total sweetheart and absolutely beautiful.Details
I had been aware of Jessica F for quite some time. I was actually nervous to work with her. She has a great look and I looove her body type. I had contacted her a few years back but never heard back from her. We got in touch a few months ago, but then I fell ill and lost touch with humanity lol.Details
Either way, here’s a few photos of Milly. Milly came in late 2009 and we shot. Then she came in early 2011 and we shot once more. She had grown very quite over that time and finally a few weeks ago I had a chance to catch up to her and we found time to shoot. I forgot how beautiful she was as it’s been some time since I’ve looked at her photos or her. She’s so awesome because she’s shy, but not really.Details
I’ve been working on an in-depth Photoshop retouching video for some time now, I’ve finally got the last two videos edited and will now start putting everything together!
One of the sample photos used is this one of Bre. I really liked how this one turned out and wanted to share.Details
One of the most annoying debates in the photography world is “Canon vs Nikon” This is something that’s been happening since the beginning of time and will never go away. My take on it? Those who partake in this debate are morons.
Yes, I said it. If you partake in this convo, you’re a moron.Details
Yesterday I hosted my last workshop of the 2011 year! It was a shootout (shootouts are no instruction just shooting) and it was fun. I had four models scheduled, but two of them had to last minute cancel and the two that made it were BEYOND success! The two that made it were the two I advertised as being there so it was all good. Today is stressed for time but I wanted to put up two quick edited images:Details
Here’s some more old school photos for ya, only these are from some magazines I was in. I’m sharing because these are fun for me to look at and see not only how my work has improved, but see where I was with what I was shooting. Meaning posing and connection with the model which I now think is the most important aspects of a shoot.Details
